Introduction
NSJCA selects representative teams to participate in the Cricket NSW (CNSW) Youth Championships. Information about representative cricket can be found here https://www.nswyouthchampionships.com.au/ and under the REPRESENTATIVE CRICKET page here: https://nsjca.asn.au/.
Girls Trials
Trials for girls’ representative:-
- U15 are planned to be held in October; and
- U13 teams are planned to be held at the first available opportunity after winter sports in September.
The exact dates, times and venues will be advised via a separate announcement on this website.
Boys Trials – Changes
For the 2026-27 season:
- U11s Trial 1 will be held immediately after the 2025-26 season, rather than just prior to commencement of the 2026-27 season. Trial 2 will be held in September at the first available opportunity after winter sports.
- Wicket keeping will be assessed at Trial 1 and Trial 2 for all age groups.
- As a test, fielding will be explicitly assessed for U12s and U13s. Should this prove worthwhile, this arrangement will be implemented for all age-groups in subsequent seasons.
- A 14-2s team will be selected using the same trial results used to select the 14-1s team, rather than having a separate 14-2s trial later in the year.

Age Groups
Age groups for season 2026-27 are:
U11 – either 9 or 10 years old on 31 August 2026
U12 – 11 years old on 31 August 2026

Compliance with Policy
By registering to trial, parents agree that they and their children will comply with NSJCA’s representative cricket policies (under the REPRESENTATIVE CRICKET page on this website) and those of CNSW (here: https://www.nswyouthchampionships.com.au/policy) and accept NSJCA’s selection decisions.
Players who wish to trial to represent NSJCA but do not meet eligibility criteria contained in NSJCA’s representative cricket policies are asked to contact NSJCA’s Representative Sub-Committee at reps@nsjca.asn.au about eligibility.
Trial Requirement – Cricket NSW
CNSW permits players to trial for and represent only one association per season. Once CNSW makes the nomination form available, it will be provided to trial nominees.
Required items for Trials
Players are to bring their own equipment to trials but are not to wear representative cricket clothing. They should also bring food and water. Players in the:
- U11-U13 inclusive age groups are to bring a 142g red leather cricket ball to trials.
- U14 and U15 age groups are to bring a 156g red leather cricket ball to trials.
Players selected to attend Trial 2 are required to have a:
- passport via which their age can be checked or a birth certificate if they do not have a passport
- hardcopy of the form used to nominate their chosen association to CNSW (provided CNSW makes the form available in time)
Parent and Player Responsibilities
Parents are to supervise triallists who are not undertaking trial activity at a particular time
Parents are not to coach or film players when they are undertaking trial activity (ie batting, bowling, fielding or wicket keeping) and will be required to remain in areas designated by the Trial Coordinator.
Commitment
Unless they are injured or have a commitment that ranks above sport, players are to be available to play all competition and practice matches. Players are also to be available to attend training as determined by the team coach. Typically, teams practice midweek during the representative season. Representative training takes precedence over club training.
