Policy 4 – Availability and Precedence

Posted on June 20, 2025

Policy approved 5 June 2026

Availability

  1. Players are to play all matches, including pre-season matches, except where team managers deem absences to be reasonable and deem notice of the absence to be reasonable.
  2. Players are to attend all squad training sessions, including those conducted in the pre-season period, unless:
    1. The coach advises the team a particular session will not be held or is voluntary.
    2. A series of pre-season sessions is voluntary.  This could occur where, for example, NSJCA runs an academy or a group of master classes that are non-squad specific.
    3. Team managers deem absences to be reasonable and deem notice of the absence to be reasonable.
  3. Some boys’ matches are played during holiday periods.  Girls’ seasons overlap holiday periods to a high degree.  It is often not possible to get replacements during those periods.
  4. Parents of players who intend to be absent from matches during holiday periods must notify selectors before trials.  The extent of such absences may affect selection decisions and, in the case of girls’ teams, whether there are sufficient players to field more than one team.
  5. Precedence
    1. Should the timing of representative playing or training commitments conflict with club commitments, then representative commitments are to take precedence.
